Super proud to present Global Local: Staten Island aka La Isla Bonita this Sunday in New York City in conjunction with Staten-based arts collective I founded ISLA, Lina Montoya’s LMP Project and California non-profit, Sol Collective. Besides Shaolin being my hometown – read this piece I did in 2013 for Cluster Mag about the Island arts scene – it’s an extremely vibrant place for arts with many creative people from different places, proud to work with what they have and be themselves.

Screen shot 2015-07-08 at 12.10.12 PMWith New York City being bought and sold everyday a little more for the soulless, Staten Island is still a place where you know you’re neighbors, where there’s remanence of cohesion in such a big city even with all our differences. In a world where developers are “betting” on Staten Island to be the next Gold coast, La Isla Bonita is a cultural statement directly from the community; put on with little to no budget, yet tons of community wealth from over a dozen organizations and artists to literally make it happen.
